The Centre for Animal Referral & Emergency (CARE) is a 24-hour emergency and specialist veterinary hospital in the heart of Melbourne.

Our modern, well-equipped centre has a motivated team of 30+ specialist and non-specialist veterinary doctors, working alongside an exceptional group of experienced nurses and support staff.

CARE’s purpose is to provide the gold-standard of patient care, with diagnostic and treatment plans tailored to achieve the best possible outcomes for each case. CARE offers a unique cooperative approach to patient care from specialists in a number of disciplines, complemented by a continuously staffed intensive care unit and emergency service. We consider the unique requirements of each individual pet, their owners, and their primary care veterinarian.

The centre was opened in 2013, with the primary aim to provide gold standard specialist and emergency veterinary care to the pets of Greater Melbourne and beyond. Our core values are honesty, trust, fairness, teamwork, compassion, and a commitment to not only the highest standards of patient care but the health, wellbeing, and career progression of our staff. We strive for excellent relationships with our referring veterinarians and clients, and we pride ourselves on having a cohesive, friendly working environment.

CARE is equipped with in-house Siemens SOMATOM 16-slice CT, Philips Affiniti 50 ultrasound, digital subtraction fluoroscopy, computed radiography suite, in-house clinical pathology (including Idexx biochemistry and haematology, Radiometer blood-gas analysis, PT/APTT), Olympus high-definition endoscopy, advanced surgical monitoring, ventilation and regular off-site access to high-field MRI. We are committed to the continued development of the facility and its instrumentation, to ensure that contemporary and newly developed techniques and practices are available for our patients.
