Avian Health Seminar
Pet birds are increasingly presenting to veterinary clinics and their owners met with dismay from attending clinicians.
Feathers and a beak should not dissuade vets from providing first aid and stabilisation. Some basic knowledge, tools and action will see sick bird patients are given lifesaving support required to, at the very least, buy some
time to allow referral to occur. Having already been commenced on supportive therapies with their local clinics, allows for referral services for avian patients to focus on the more intricate diagnostics. This will have positive effects on any clinics’ reputation, as it demonstrates value for life, regardless of the integumentary packaging of the patient.
This seminar will cover:
- Re-acquainting with anatomical features unique to birds as it applies to a physical exam
- Gaining confidence in provision of basic first aid for bird patients
- Performing basic non-invasive in-house diagnostics.
- Appreciating the true bird emergency and when immediate referral is paramount.
